Awwh Crap

Reaching into my bag caused me despair as my hands did not find my TI-89 calculator. I have lost it. But I did get a somewhat assuring email response from my lab instructor that a student may have it and will give it to me in lecture. Hopefully, it returns to its rightful owner. Those suckers cost well over a hundred bucks! That's at least 100 5 piece Wendy's nuggets!

New word that annoys me: rage quit. Often it's used now in online gaming when someone quits when under apparent rage. I'll hear it so often it enrages me to destroy them all...well, not really.

2nd experiment for my Gen Chem 2 course was on wednesday afternoon. A funny thing about this experiment is that it gives the reader incorrect information. Using the arrhenius equation you're supposed to graph the ln k vs. 1/T where the slope is equal to the -Ea/R. However, the instructions says twice in the manual to plot the 1/T vs ln k. I forgot to ask the instructor as to the problem. Tweek was in somewhat denial again. I did explain the concept of y=mx+b and how the manual was incorrect. Hopefully, he'll notice something when he plots the 1/T vs ln k to get something that looks like this:

He might get smart and get this:

I calculated the Ea to be 80.2 kJ. I found a japanese article with an abstract that said the estimated Ea to be 62kJ. I guess that's not too bad considering how poor the lab condition is for me.

On youtube I saw comments that were extending beyond the table comments are usually restricted to. weird because they all were saying ">lol>lol>lol>lol>lol>lol"

As I'm typing this I have learned that blogspot doesn't like me when I added the pics and typed in both the 'edit html' and 'compose' tabs. Oh well.

Lesson of the day: Don't let your mom buy hard rolls on sale. This one in my hand is dry and hard to eat. Ugh.... I'll let it slide because yesterday was my Mom's birthday. Went to Olive Garden on State St. and Vine St. Food was okay but the quantity was good.

Morning 1.27.09

...or evening is more precise.

Just got done watching a 720p (1280x720) version of the Dark Knight. WOW. I've seen that movie too many times but once more in HD was a good way to finish. Much better than Batman Begins, imo.

Happy New Years to all that know. So far I've had two nights of lots of food with two more nights to go. Tonight was veggies only but it was good. It's like a little buffet. So many things to try and I wonder what's for tomorrow.

I changed my background picture. I really liked the original picture because I got it from a favorite manga I'm currently reading. That reminds me I should check for a newly released chapter...nope.   :(  The problem was that my eyes felt like it was being pierced when I would read my own blog. So the original background was replaced by a Mr. T. picture where he's spending his Easter Sunday at a homeless shelter and making a prayer with a homeless dude. That earned a bit of respect from me.

I don't know if you've been keeping up with tennis but this year's Australian Open is very interesting. America's Andy Roddick made it to the semi-final and I was waiting for Roger Federer's quarter-final match but it seems that will be later today. Luckily, Tuesdays are my short days at school. Or I can skip it all together because I'm so damn smart. ::snirk::

School yesterday (monday) was interesting. I got back my group test score from my elem org class and we missed one question of 20. Originally, I had circled the right answer but my three partners were strongly convinced it was the other 'teaser' answer. I suppose because it was awhile I did this stuff that I was persuaded to eat the devil's donut (The Simpsons). The class is split into three groups. One group was short that day so I was moved there for the week. Turns out the lowest scoring group was my original group. The girl who takes charge made a point to the professor that they scored the lowest because they lost me. It seems people are catching on that I've had experience in organic...

I finish off with a clip of Mr. T. I think I'll look into his show.

1st Experiment Day of Gen Chem 2 Lab

At least one of you know that I'm taking courses at SLCC to get prerequisites done for dental school. One of them is Gen Chem 2 Lab. I must say that today was rather interesting. I must note that the chemistry lab facility there is horrible. No surprise there.

I've learned that my partner is a very panicky person. He kept forewarning that we wouldn't get done in time. He also is too worried about others around him. He got frustrated that people started leaving before we were done. I'll name my partner as "Tweek" after the south park character Tweek Tweak.

We were measuring out different chemicals that were already filled in "community" volumetric burets. Apparently, they don't have enough burets for everyone or maybe they're afraid someone will swallow chemicals. Anyways, I was reporting the buret measurements to the hundredths place such as 2.02 ml iodine. Tweek said that we were supposed to do it to the tenths place and I asked him why. He replies with 'because the teacher said so' to which I began explaining why the uncertainty lies at the hundredths. He stubbornly agreed but I later took a peek at his paper and kept them to the tenths. Later the teacher looked at my data table and said I should be reporting that to the tenths. Once again, I explained where the uncertainty lies is the location of the last digit of reported measurement. She gave me a baffled look so I then pretended to be mistaken and changed my data to the tenths. LOL.

Another interesting moment: we were mixing acetone and H+ from HCl in water in a test tube of iodine, and we calculated the time for the reaction to complete by waiting for the colors to go clear. On our first trial Tweek was using a stirring rod but he only stirred horizontally. This of course resulted the top layers to clear up first. On the following trials I told him that he should mix up and down as well. He stubbornly did it but had to be reminded over and over. The mixtures from there on were going clear throughout the test tube. So he learned that the first trial had to be thrown out, right? Wrong! Tweek wanted to use the data of the poor trial for our reaction rate calculations. Apparently, he chose that trial because the time to react was similar to the other students around him. I placed my foot down and said no.

I mentioned that Tweek was frustrated others were leaving befuse us. He failed to realize that we only had to finish the lab and not the calculations. However, I was not responding to him because I wanted to get all my calculations done before leaving campus. Later I told him that others were leaving earlier because they postponed their calculations.

This semester is going to be fun. I wasn't mad at anyone today but rather, I was entertained. But I did get mad at stupid Utahn drivers going 50 mph on the freeway for reasons none other than being stupid.

Yoho! Captain's Log 1.20.2009

I've returned!

Easy going weekend. Saturday morning got the workout going on with Phil. Good workout and even included running and interrupted racquetball! I was beating Phil 6-3 in points! Not sure if that's a win or a postponed game. Usually, I'll win 1 out of every 4 games so every lead I take is surely exciting. Not that I suck or anything. What? You think I suck? I'll destroy you on the court!

Moving on:

Didn't do a whole lot as to socializing outside the house. Shortly went to a friend's gf's art thingy that I thought was alright. It was at a ski and boarding shop but everything was poorly placed that it was hard to walk around. The art was rather dark but a few were interesting. I saw a Mr. T canvas that belonged to someone else, which I liked the most. Mr. T is the shiet. Foo.

Didn't go boarding this weekend as things weren't planned out that well. Also, my body said the massive pecs needed rest from the intense workout with Phil. I've gotten better at boarding as my helmet gives me the confidence to be a bit more risky. My next goal is to work on smoothing out my carves to where it seems I'm doing it effortlessly.

Just now I finished watching the 2001 movie Evolution. Funny movie that isn't crazy like Old School. Watched it with a follow up short paper for some extra credit in my chemistry class. Weird but I'm not complaining.

David Duchovny: 'No, no government. I know those people. Absolutely not.'
Orlando Jones: 'You do?'
::camera looks at a quiet David Duchovny::

HAHAHA

This afternoon I was working on making a edited video from playing this game called Left 4 Dead. I did it succesfully but not perfectly. Youtube wasn't too happy with my size of my video so it isn't optimized. The video is of Yoshi and I playing the hardest map and hardest difficulty by way of a map exploit. We failed the first time but Yoshi made it alive the second time. Btw, I purposely stayed behind to take on the bosses and zombies so Yoshi could escape and get a game achievement. It's not that I suck. Huh? You think I suck? I'll kill you on left 4 dead!!!

Currently listening to Audioslave- Revelations album while typing this. It pumps me up! Great for boarding music for it kills your fear!

Captain's log 1.17.09

Decided to join and give blogging a try. I often end up on blogs to find advise on tech stuff. Also, a friend just started his so I guess I'm a copycat. Done a bit before on myspace but I was too serious back then.

My intention is to have fun and post whatever. I don't have any high expectations to come from this blog than beyond the possibility I might see myself changing if i keep this up. Shit. That sounded serious. Oh and I do allow myself the healthy dose of swearing. Good for the bowl movements.

Time to sleep. Morning workout to come.
