Spaghetti

Meatballs.

I cooked that tonight. Not a bad first try. The sauce and meat was good. Howevever, the spaghetti could have been more soft. It tasted fine when I tested it while still in the water but after drying it wasn't the same. I also had salad to go with the main dish.

:)

Beeho Fry Rice

So I've just finished cooking my first ever fried rice-beeho style. No soy sauce and no msg. Instead of cooking canola oil there is olive oil. Hollla!

In place of soy sauce, I used the 'squid' fish sauce. Beeho fry rice has onions, hot dogs (i'm too cheap for more exp meat), mixed vegetables, eggs and, of course, rice. Also included: salt, grinded pepper, and mushroom powdered thingies my mom gave me.

Tastes pretty darn good.

My time in California

Ok so it's been over a week since I left California and returned home for school, which the first class starts at 7pm. All my classes are at night, which have obvious pros and cons.

Here's a wrap-up of where I left off:

My cousin and I did go kayak fishing. Way nice weather and got some good upper back workouts. After about 5.5 hours we caught no fish but each of us got a few bites. There was this sea lion (otter perhaps?) that popped its head out of the water a few times. There are pics, of fishing and more, in my facebook so head over there.

The families went camping to Big Sur. It was less than two hours away from San Jose. They have some beaches, but were too cold to swim in as most West Coast beaches are anyways. We did this and that, but it was for family stuff and was enjoyable.

With this big of a family, there's always a moment of embarrassment. Our last camping trip years ago ended with most of us, except those not crazy such as myself, holding hands and dancing around the camp fire. But this year, there was none of that, thankfully. However, on our last night, many of the parents drank quite a bit of wine and were very loud, performing Vietnamese singing games. The neighboring campers to our left abruptly just stopped what they were doing and stared for minutes.

Oh! On the first night, two cousins and I stayed up late and talked on various subjects. In pure awesomeness, the clear night sky was the medium for many shooting stars. Those stars were so fast and clear while some were rather huge! You had only one second too see them pass by. Luckily, I saw four stars that were each given a wish. After two stars, I felt like it was too much. LOL

The trip to California was worth the two 12 hour driving trips, and part of me didn't want to leave. But real life called and I had to pick up.

Already

It's August and here's the first post for the month:

I was shortly in Utah to visit family and friends. Some good stuff during the stay. The family, except my brother, left to San Jose, California yesterday. 12 hours of uncomfortable sleeping and a constantly talking uncle. It was good that my music player lasted for 11/12th's of the way. I ate at sushi boat-town with my cousin; it's a tradition that we do whenever I'm in town.

The weather is sorta cold for me but I'm getting used to it. Sleeping was way easy as it was at a chill temperature.

The plan for the rest of the trip will be fishing (hopefully), San Francisco, Napa Valley wine country, and a two day camping trip.

WEEEEEE!!!

Bored or really tired

So I have just returned to the home land. this will be for a short time then it's off to california for a family trip with other related families for camping.

After over 5 hours from returning, I am already really really bored. Eating dinner with the whole family was good. The food was definitely better than what I was making myself. I felt a little tired and napped til 10ish. Browsed the internet, played SF4 (which I hate because their online design and registry is terrible), and watched some tv. Now here I am back on the laptop. Maybe I'm just really tired in the head.

Things should turn around if I come up with things to keep me entertained (sounds obvious...!).

Mornin heat

whoo, it's 8:33 am and I am feeling the heat w/o a/c.

Last night, I ate at Sushi Mon and did the AYCE 1 hour challenge. Not much of a challenge because I am not a noob at AYCE sushi restaurants. And this place is great for AYCE because they'll even do half orders on rolls and everything on the list is allowed with a few few limits.
I arrived at a great time where everyone but one man was done eating so the fish came really really fast. Another factor, ordering nigiri strictly allows the food to arrive quickly.

I loved the albacore tuna nigiri the most. ::drool:: . The quality was great overall. For sides, my favorite was the cooked mussels; that's big for me because I'm generally not a big fan of mussels. I avoided special rolls because that's how you lose to the house. LoL. For the first time, I had a sake shooter that was interesting in content and taste. The sliced green onions and fish eggs threw me off initially so I quickly took it. If given the choice, I don't think I'd order that again.

OH! I almost forgot. For dessert, instead of green tea ice cream, plum ice cream was ordered. Holla! One of the best ice cream flavors ever. A long time ago, I had tasty hot plum wine. Conclusion: plums are way underrated.

I haven't been to many AYCE sushi restaurants, and I've been to sushi buffets like Todai and Makino. Sushi Mon wins over all of them.

Yozho

It certainly has been awhile since I've updated, which I noticed recently.

Updates:

Life is alright.

My hand me down rice cooker is terrible. For some reason, it's wiring or something is not connected well so I have to improvise on keeping it working. I want a new one!

Last night, I encountered a female black widow spider while taking out trash to the backyard. At first, I wasn't sure but I had a feeling it wasn't some normal spider. Looked on the net and for sure, I noticed the red portions on the body (abdomen) and confirmed presence of female black widow. It was pretty close to the back door so I couldn't ignore it. Smashed that thing with territorial authority.

Weather has been getting really hot for almost every day. Except for the last few days where there were clouds and reported rain. whew!

I wonder what I should cook tomorrow. Last few nights have been take out and I gotta stop doing that. Btw, Port of Subs is a fantastic sub place. Fresh sliced roast beef provologne with little mayo, dijion, onions, sliced jalepenios and olives. fantastic.

Post more this week, I may. LEYTER
