Something Interesting

I woke up to a very uncomfortable feeling in my left arm. It was entirely numb. I'm sure you may have experienced different degrees of numbness, but this was the worst of them all. My arm was so numb that it took approximately 1/4 of a second from my mental command to the physical movement of my finger. As I jumped out of bed I could not carry my arm and so it hanged and drooped towards gravity. After 5 min, I did get my sensation and total control back.

I noticed that a lot of these numbing events occur when I sleep with this certain shirt on. I guess I'll stuff away into some storage box.

:\

O crap

I did not post a single blog last month.

Paranormal Activity

This movie was pretty darn good. I got scared a few times. It also has moments of humor between the couple. I don't want to get into deep detail and ruin the movie for you, the reader. When I came home, I closed the garage door the moment my car was inside. Oddly, the garage did not close all the way and it opened back up. I did not see anything in the way of the sensors and the sensors appeared to be aligned correctly. I was a bit freaked out.

It was a bit early for me to sleep so I was on the computer. I was looking at a youtube video then suddenly loud noises from the speakers scared me. It seems I left the sound on loud before I left for the movie. HAHA.

I went to bed at about 1 am. I usually sleep with my doors open, but this time I closed them. These are two doors where one is locked into the hole in the wood frame above, and the other door closes into the first one. By morning, I walk to the two doors and I tried to open them. I could not....WTFWTF. Eventually, after a few tries I was able to open them. I think a combo of the new carpet floors and how the structure of the doors made opening the doors more difficult.

Well, I'm over the movie but the experience was interesting. :)

Poison!

Yesterday was a good day overall. After classes, a few buds from class and myself went to a bar to watch the NFL season opener. Beer was way cheap for that night. 17 bucks for 8 beers; ridiculous. And they were giving away free food of chicken sliders and hot dogs. BUT!...when I got home I felt slightly whoozy so I took a half hour nap. Then I suddenly felt sick to my stomach and was dizzy. Now it wasn't from the alcohol, I tell you. It was probably the food causing me food poison. There was no pepto stuff in the house and I didn't feel good to drive. I tried to vomit but for some reason my nose had to bleed....weird stuff. Luckily, things got better in another hour when I used the funny remedy of Powerade. Sip that stuff occassionally and eventually, I was 90% better.

Spaghetti

Meatballs.

I cooked that tonight. Not a bad first try. The sauce and meat was good. Howevever, the spaghetti could have been more soft. It tasted fine when I tested it while still in the water but after drying it wasn't the same. I also had salad to go with the main dish.

:)

Beeho Fry Rice

So I've just finished cooking my first ever fried rice-beeho style. No soy sauce and no msg. Instead of cooking canola oil there is olive oil. Hollla!

In place of soy sauce, I used the 'squid' fish sauce. Beeho fry rice has onions, hot dogs (i'm too cheap for more exp meat), mixed vegetables, eggs and, of course, rice. Also included: salt, grinded pepper, and mushroom powdered thingies my mom gave me.

Tastes pretty darn good.

My time in California

Ok so it's been over a week since I left California and returned home for school, which the first class starts at 7pm. All my classes are at night, which have obvious pros and cons.

Here's a wrap-up of where I left off:

My cousin and I did go kayak fishing. Way nice weather and got some good upper back workouts. After about 5.5 hours we caught no fish but each of us got a few bites. There was this sea lion (otter perhaps?) that popped its head out of the water a few times. There are pics, of fishing and more, in my facebook so head over there.

The families went camping to Big Sur. It was less than two hours away from San Jose. They have some beaches, but were too cold to swim in as most West Coast beaches are anyways. We did this and that, but it was for family stuff and was enjoyable.

With this big of a family, there's always a moment of embarrassment. Our last camping trip years ago ended with most of us, except those not crazy such as myself, holding hands and dancing around the camp fire. But this year, there was none of that, thankfully. However, on our last night, many of the parents drank quite a bit of wine and were very loud, performing Vietnamese singing games. The neighboring campers to our left abruptly just stopped what they were doing and stared for minutes.

Oh! On the first night, two cousins and I stayed up late and talked on various subjects. In pure awesomeness, the clear night sky was the medium for many shooting stars. Those stars were so fast and clear while some were rather huge! You had only one second too see them pass by. Luckily, I saw four stars that were each given a wish. After two stars, I felt like it was too much. LOL

The trip to California was worth the two 12 hour driving trips, and part of me didn't want to leave. But real life called and I had to pick up.

Already

It's August and here's the first post for the month:

I was shortly in Utah to visit family and friends. Some good stuff during the stay. The family, except my brother, left to San Jose, California yesterday. 12 hours of uncomfortable sleeping and a constantly talking uncle. It was good that my music player lasted for 11/12th's of the way. I ate at sushi boat-town with my cousin; it's a tradition that we do whenever I'm in town.

The weather is sorta cold for me but I'm getting used to it. Sleeping was way easy as it was at a chill temperature.

The plan for the rest of the trip will be fishing (hopefully), San Francisco, Napa Valley wine country, and a two day camping trip.

WEEEEEE!!!

Bored or really tired

So I have just returned to the home land. this will be for a short time then it's off to california for a family trip with other related families for camping.

After over 5 hours from returning, I am already really really bored. Eating dinner with the whole family was good. The food was definitely better than what I was making myself. I felt a little tired and napped til 10ish. Browsed the internet, played SF4 (which I hate because their online design and registry is terrible), and watched some tv. Now here I am back on the laptop. Maybe I'm just really tired in the head.

Things should turn around if I come up with things to keep me entertained (sounds obvious...!).

Mornin heat

whoo, it's 8:33 am and I am feeling the heat w/o a/c.

Last night, I ate at Sushi Mon and did the AYCE 1 hour challenge. Not much of a challenge because I am not a noob at AYCE sushi restaurants. And this place is great for AYCE because they'll even do half orders on rolls and everything on the list is allowed with a few few limits.
I arrived at a great time where everyone but one man was done eating so the fish came really really fast. Another factor, ordering nigiri strictly allows the food to arrive quickly.

I loved the albacore tuna nigiri the most. ::drool:: . The quality was great overall. For sides, my favorite was the cooked mussels; that's big for me because I'm generally not a big fan of mussels. I avoided special rolls because that's how you lose to the house. LoL. For the first time, I had a sake shooter that was interesting in content and taste. The sliced green onions and fish eggs threw me off initially so I quickly took it. If given the choice, I don't think I'd order that again.

OH! I almost forgot. For dessert, instead of green tea ice cream, plum ice cream was ordered. Holla! One of the best ice cream flavors ever. A long time ago, I had tasty hot plum wine. Conclusion: plums are way underrated.

I haven't been to many AYCE sushi restaurants, and I've been to sushi buffets like Todai and Makino. Sushi Mon wins over all of them.

Yozho

It certainly has been awhile since I've updated, which I noticed recently.

Updates:

Life is alright.

My hand me down rice cooker is terrible. For some reason, it's wiring or something is not connected well so I have to improvise on keeping it working. I want a new one!

Last night, I encountered a female black widow spider while taking out trash to the backyard. At first, I wasn't sure but I had a feeling it wasn't some normal spider. Looked on the net and for sure, I noticed the red portions on the body (abdomen) and confirmed presence of female black widow. It was pretty close to the back door so I couldn't ignore it. Smashed that thing with territorial authority.

Weather has been getting really hot for almost every day. Except for the last few days where there were clouds and reported rain. whew!

I wonder what I should cook tomorrow. Last few nights have been take out and I gotta stop doing that. Btw, Port of Subs is a fantastic sub place. Fresh sliced roast beef provologne with little mayo, dijion, onions, sliced jalepenios and olives. fantastic.

Post more this week, I may. LEYTER

Moment taken out of context

Tiff: "If I had to be rear ended by anyone, I hope it would be him" -explaining her 'car accident' in California. While saying this, I'm looking away trying not to laugh.

To add more....

...to my list of broken things, my mini ipod of many years died on me about a week ago. but i'm not too upset as i milked the crap out of that thing. replaced battery and custom firmware made me keep it longer. i dropped that thing so many times and it still worked like a trooper. funny, though, what killed it was a small two feet drop onto a rug over hardwood flooring.

phone update: i went back to my treo 700wx because it holds a much longer battery life than the lg enV. Also, I like the custom software i have on it such as this nice threaded sms program and mobile gui theme. just wished this phone was smaller and didn't have that antenna sticking out.

oh, and my bday was last tuesday. 23 years old now! daaam. i hope this year will be a strong jordan year of my life. however, no cake. never had one in who knows since when....

also, i went to the optometrist finally after 4 years. Originally, i had thought it was 2 years since the last check up. The doc, with a funny change in tone, said i should see him every two years. So it's time to get new glasses! my current one is so beat up with scratches and missing parts.

Bricked

That's the status of my phone that I purchased several weeks ago. It was a samsung sch-i760, which i loved and hated. pros: wifi, touch screen, slide phone with full keyboard, and windows mobile 6 software. cons: touch screen was not as sensitive and accurate compared to my palm treo 700wx; call quality is moderate at best (lots of muffling); the software lagged when i did things too fast or when i slid the keyboard while it was in the middle of processing; bulky but not as bad as the 700wx.

So I was trying to update the 6.0 windows mobile to 6.1 and it failed in the middle of installing, causing it to brick and become very unresponsive.

As of now, I'm using my old old LG enV , which i must say is refreshing. The software is simple cuz it's a stupid phone but texting is fast and navigating is quick. It just doesn't have the capability of organizing like smartphones do. But I think I can live with it for now.

I'm looking into the lg touch or utstarcom blitz for verizon. It's a non-touchscreen smartphone with a keyboard and uses windows mobile 6.0 standard edition software. Possible risk is that it could be sluggish. I wish I could just safely update it to 6.1 and get the goodies like threaded sms.

If you have any suggestions, I'm looking for a good organizing phone that won't require a data plan from verizon. If there is a phone that can do that, I'd like to hear about it. Also, if your suggestion is not a smartphone/pda, i'd be more intrigued. And blackberries require a data plan, in case you were wondering.

I used a lot of if's.

Can't Sreep

Me no sreepy. Actually, I fell asleep around 10 and woke up at 12:30 upon the msging of someone on msn mess. Now I can't return to the state of dreams.

Hm: this weekend was more fun than usual. I went hiking with buddies to big cottonwood area. We drove up to the brighton sky resort, but as we were driving more and more up the mountain the temperature reading was decreasing dramatically to as low as 45 F. brrrr. so we instead drove back down to a lower elevated trail that was too easy but fun, nonetheless.

Then we had a fun bbq later that night. A friend kept saying how good the movie 'hangover' was so others and myself took his recommendation. The movie was pretty crazy funny and offensive. LOl

I have other things I could blog about but my attention just switched to idc anymore mode.

Also: listening to: Queen- Under Pressure

Oh hai

Returned from vegas this past weekend. fortunately, I left before memorial day so the huge long lines at the airport were avoided. The weather was really nice, but slightly a bit too hot for me since I wasn't used to it.

Stayed at the tropicana hotel and casino; cheap and cheap. i understand the reason for going frugal but i didn't feel clean the whole time. the toilet had mold growing from behind...

On friday morning i placed a pointspread bet on the orlando magic for +9 points. Luckily, the magic decided to actually fight back later in the game and lost only by one point. I didn't get to see any of the game UNTIL I arrived to the Paris hotel/casino and caught the last second shot by lebron james. the whole crowd watching reacted with awe and cheers.

BAM!
This year's nba playoffs certain is more exciting than last post-season (except for the Jazz part)

Hi!

5:40 AM and I can't go back to sleep. Last night was very exhausting. I participated in a two hour gym session with Phil and then a few hours of basketball with the high school gang. The body is currently pretty sore and my left ankle is very stiff. Feels good though in a way.

I'll later post pics on a small side life project in progress. Gonna go watch a show.

LATER:

Bought a decent arcade stick. Then I bought higher quality buttons for replacement. I used a dremel to grind away some metal plate so the new buttons could fit. Also, there were small plastic tabs on the button that had to be grinded away.

Then I soldered the buttons onto the original pcb board. Overall, I'm happy with the work except that for some reason, two buttons register as the same button on gaming softwares. Looking on the board, the work seems fine and the board is decently clean. I think i'll desolder and resolder thoese buttons with less solder.

After that, half of the work is done. Now, I'm waiting for my replacement joystick to arrive.

blah!

Another huge nose bleed. With no warning or provocation, I suddenly had a huge nose bleed in the same nostril again. The initial released blood fell onto the floor. I hurried to the bathroom and took a wet towel. One end of the towel was used to scrub on the blood-stained floor while the other end was kept to my nose. Ugh. Tough one to stop too. What's wrong with me?!?!

Oh Man....

What a bad start to my day: woke up and sneezed pretty hard. That resulted in bleeding in my right nostril, and this one was hard to stop. Here's a link to the pic of the final blood clot/mucous with the piece of toilet paper on it. WARNING: it's gross but it does look somewhat like a parrot.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v714/vcong/IMG_1149.jpg?t=1241136037

For my first class my teacher never showed up...how am I supposed to hand in the homework now? Then I bought a 75 cent soda with a dollar and the machine didn't give me a quarter back. Things turned around in my next class when I got back my final and earned an A for the class. Yay.

Man...

I just had that itch in my itching nostril that had to be picked on. Gushing blood followed! I rush to the bathroom and I plug the nostril with some toilet paper. But it wasn't enough! The paper had been drowned in the blood so it was replaced with another. While doing so a stream of blood gushes down my face. I apply a damp piece of toilet recycled paper and wait...my nose bleed finally clotted. When the paper was taken out the blood clot on it was huge and slimy. I would have taken a picture but that would probably be too gross for anyone else to see. Unless you really want to see it...

Nightmares

Lately, I've noticed that my nightmares have evolved from when I was a kid. In the old and golden days, my nightmares were of monsters and clowns attempting to hurt me. Today, they are often about me going to school near the end of the semester, and I learn that there is a class that I have no attended the whole semester. And I finally show up to class to learn that there is a final. Then I'll wake up in a layer of sweat (actually, no, I was jk).

Also, I've noticed that Utahn drivers have become worse and more unsafe on the road. Now they'll dare to run straight through red lights. Turrible. Just turrible.

Ach...Ach...

Achtung! Hah! You thought it was going to be achoo. Seasonal allergies are here and I'm being somewhat affected. No need for any pills cuz I'm a man.

News:

School is starting to wind down. Just got tests then follow up finals and I feel good about them. Weather is improving of course.  Nice to have it but it's getting pretty warm at night. My dad doesn't want the a/c on just yet. Darn.

Utah Jazz are in the playoffs at the lowest seed (8th). I dunno if they can pull a road win off the Lakers. But I hope so.

It seems that finally those who were in support of the TARP program are changing their minds after 20 investigations (more to come) into criminal activity have been in the spotlight in the news. Never give money to those who can't even be responsible with their own. Really now...

I have reconfirmed that Five Guys has fantastic burgers.

Also, I've learned first hand that the SLC Tribune online opinion community is filled with many a-holes that live only to demean others with different opinions. Why do they even use up their time for such purposes? I joined while watching the jazz game last sunday and quickly left it before the jazz game ended.

Edit:

Here's a comment from a not-so-smart fella on the subject I had participated. Note: if you are this guy, sorry, but you're not too bright from a logical standpoint. So he's quoting and responding from another person's comment:

Mikey1969:

"Mr. Jones, I got a tax cut that means 30 dollars more per paycheck, and if I were SMART, I'd invest it all into something..."

You don't really understand what a recession is, do you?

A recession is a slowdown in spending(I believe we covered this when I was in the 7th or 8th grade). For one reason or another, people spend less. When people spend less, companies they do business sell less. When they sell less, they order less materials and use less advertising. When this happens, the manufacturing and advertising companies slow down. As a result, people get laid off, can't pay their bills, and the whole thing snowballs, getting bigger and bigger. The solution is to get people to spend money again. The reason last year's stimulus didn't help any isn't because Bush is a moron(He still is, mind you), but because people either stuck the money in the bank or paid down debt. This tax stimulus is designed to get you spending that extra $30, whether you buy cokes at the convenience store, go to a movie, or treat the family to dinner. The point is: you are spending money, putting it back into the cyclical flow, and as a result, stimulating the economy. This is a long process, but it should result in the opposite of what I mentioned in the beginning, in short, companies will pick up, they will fill their rosters, and they will do more work.

Will it work? Who knows, but sticking your money in some investment fund isn't going to do a single thing to pick the economy back up from where it has fallen.

To Mikey1969:

Mikey 1969, you're silly. It's scary that this kind of ignorance is real in a 40 year old where he believes any form of smart investing has no value to the economy. This might suggest that you have no habit or tradition to save and invest any of your income. Or you might actually be saving your money into a bank or credit union without knowing the fact that money is used for investments and economic growth.

Quick definition of a bank from wikipedia:

A bank is a government-licensed financial institution whose primary activity is to lend in order to increase economic growth.

Hi...

Just had In n Out cheeseburger- animal style last night. Ate Five Guys a few weeks ago. Quality-wise Five Guys wins but it's twice the price than the cheeseburger. If you go for quality, Five Guys. If quantity is more important w/o being crap, then In n Out.

I don't think Melissa will like this. Hm.

I shall blog more this week.  :)

Beeho Returns

I was debating b/e the titles of "Beeho Returns" or "I'm Fat." The prior reminded me of batman.

Since Saturday I've  been meaning to update so I apologize. Anyways, here comes a long update.

Recap:

Last Sunday: Flew to Chicago for the Pittcon convention. A few months back I was excited for this but I instead dreaded going because of  all the crap I had to study for in school and prepare applications for grad school. These were all due by sometime during that week.

Flight was delayed from 11:20 am to 1:55 pm due to bad weather in Chicago. The Captain reported other pilots could not see beyond a quarter mile. Yikes. Coincidentally, the Jazz game was on so I got to enjoy watching the second half at Squatters and drank a nice Utah ale of some sort. Note: I got to fly first class because when I bought tickets with skymiles the only seats left were 1st class. Woopee! Bigger seats, drinks and food.

At the Chicago Ohare Airport I took a leak in the bathroom and I saw this:

I wasn't sure how it works but I had an idea. However, I wasn't adventurous enough to figure it out.

I stayed at the Sheraton 4 Points hotel. It was nice for the basic 1 king bed I got. Free internet was a plus. That night I walked around a bit the blocks for food. I found this place called Pizzeria Uno and ordered the small deep dish chicago pizza. It took 1 hour to cook that sucker! So I did some wandering and grocery shopping. I bought 2 litre water bottles and some cookies. Then I picked up my pizza order to eat at the hotel. That thing is huge! Took me that night, the morning, and late afternoon to eat all of it. Delicious, it was.

Monday:

The Pittcon convention was huge. I was at a different chemical convention last September and it was small in comparison to Pittcon. I did my stuff but I wasn't really focused on it. All my focus was towards getting my essay completed for applications for schools.

Got to and left the convention by provided charter buses. During the rides I was reminded how the underground roads looks so much like scenes from the Dark Knight (filmed in Chicago fyi). Cleaned up at the hotel and my friend came by and took me around town.

Here are some pics:

This is the John Hancock Center Building:

We went up to the 96th floor of that building and got a great view of the city:

Other pictures while we were walking around to our dinner destination:

My buddy took me to this Japanese Sushi/South American fusion restaurant.

Pretty interior designing (poor picture quality. sry!)

The food was even better! ( These were both the dishes for both my friend and me. I'm not that gluttonous!)

Mine:

His:

Ok. So we went all out and got this nice fondue dessert. OK OK...Yes, we are gluttonous....

Pics I took on our way back to the hotel:

Huge McDonalds:

I've been seeing a lot of these pepsi billboards such as this one:

On the way back my buddy said I had to make it a priority to eat at this place next to the Mcdonalds where they serve Italian beef sandwiches. So I did just that the next afternoon before I left for the airport on Tuesday. Pretty delicious.

So that's pretty much it. I did enjoy the free time I had over there. Just wish I had more.

Now for the current news:

It's spring break. I'm doing hw. I'm relaxing. Even went back to the gym tonight after a few weeks of slacking off. I got dizzy after working out but decided to push on the treadmill. During my absence at the gym I've noticed that I've been getting zits and stuff way more frequently. Disgusting...I have to find a way to schedule in regular gym time when school continues next week.

Long post that took me awhile to make. G'night.

Country Life

It's been decided that I'd try to expand my music list a bit so I wanted to try country. Currently, I am listening to Sara Evans, Carie Underwood, and Shania Twain. The best for me was Carie Underwood then Sara Evans. Shania Twain had some good hits back in the day but the other two were more of my preference. There were no male country artists that appealed to me. Yuck.
Also, to mix up current music list I got John Legend album Evolver.

Life has been really busy. Going to try and fit in some gym time but not probably until spring break. I will be out of town next sunday. I will try to take pictures since it's in a city I've never been to.

Word of the day:

smitten

1. struck, as with a hard blow.
2. grievously or disastrously stricken or afflicted.
3. very much in love.

Fuk Utahn Drivers

Seriously. They are serious dangers of the road. On my way home from a good day at SLCC, I turn on to Creek Road, which is under construction where they shifted lanes and eliminated the middle turn lane. I'm behind a Volvo s60 going about 32 mph. The Volvo signals left to get into his/her neighborhood just before mine and has to stop since the middle lane is gone. We wait a bit since opposite traffic is present. Abruptly, a big truck appears my rear view mirror and he's not showing any sign of slowing down! Knowing what might happen, I braced myself and honked my horn. He finally notices, brakes hard, and has to turn to the right off the curb! Bastard. He literally missed my tail by about a foot. My guess was he came at me about 40 mph. Fuk'n Utahn drivers.

Well, I'm glad I got home safely. Got a friend's bday tonight so I'll get to enjoy the night and relax (or party hard) a bit. My biology test today was rather easy. A classmate told me that he makes it easy so it'll keep students from dropping. Something about being able to drop the class should the first midterm performance be poor. Odd but interesting concept.

My bio lab class afterwards was interesting. This was going to be a long lab but the teacher split the class into four big teams to cut down the time. I joined the electrophoresis group since I've never done that stuff before.  Easy but fun stuff with preparing and watching things move towards the poles. The other groups were doing column and paper chromatography. The groups that did the paper chromatography messed up. Instead of using pencil to mark the level they used markers. lol. So it ended up with the marker oils being sporadic and all over the place. LOLOL.

Since I'm talking so much about school I have another story from this week. Gen chem II lab was frustrating. Easy lab but frustrating partner. Tweek is his name, as you may know. We're doing simple acid v. base titrations. When I read the procedure it mentioned about the accuracy of the volumetric burets to be to the 0.10 ml. I mentioned that to Tweek and he refutes that because the hundredths digit would be uncertain. I murmur "that's the point".... moron.

On to what did frustrate me. I did the first titration to show him how to work it. Our indicator was phenylphaline, which goes to pink as a indicator (just reminding). We did three initial trials and the measured volumes of NaOH used came out to be: 5.2 ml,  4.7 ml, 4.9 ml. He got  worried because the first trial took more amounts to titrate than the rest while actually being a lighter pink than trial 2 and 3. One of the possible reasons that I gave was that we used top loading balances that could easily be affected by air current. He just wouldn't accept the first trial.

So I just did another trial to shut his blah blah mouth. When weighing the solid, I demonstrated the errors that come from top loading balances and blew my breath onto the balance and showed him that the balance can give off a wrong reading. Then after titrating that fourth sample, the volume titrated came to be 4.3 ml. Tweek says let's keep that one and throw out the first trial. (Anyone see something funny here? ) I told him that we should keep all trials. We began arguing, and it ended up being stupid and pointless so I just let him be. He even ERASED all his first trial data. Sigh*. Of course, the average of the trials with calculation of the sig figs ended up both of us having the same results.

Upon cleaning up there was some NaOH left in the buret. He took it while I took the E. flasks. He was about to dump the NaOH into the original NaOH container. Of course, Super Beeho steps in and tells him not to for ethical reasons. He decides to still do it since he just saw someone else do it while I was ordering his dumb ass not to. What's worse is that the teacher told others to do the same. LOLWTFBBQ. I don't like Tweek. Of the four labs classes I have, this is the worst.

However, I really like my elem gen chem lab class. My partner is a cool guy named Jeremy. He's open minded and really wants to learn how to do things right in the lab; asks me lots of valid questions and we enjoy and learn from the mistakes we make. And he's very opposite of Tweek so not all is bad at SLCC.

That was a long read, I know. But you're just bored at work, aren't you? So I don't have any guilt from typing this. I hungry. BYE.

I forgot the title

My calculator has returned to me!

Tonight's dinner was spring rolls. Options of meat were grilled salmon and fatty pork. There were veggies of salad leafs, carrots and radish slices (long cuts). But what really hits the spot is the peanut butter poop dip. A lil bit of sriracha mixed in the dip and we're good to go.

Valentine's is coming up. I came across these nice ones:

A friend showed me this Heineken commercial. It made me want to buy a 13 pack:

And now another week of school. weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee......

Awwh Crap

Reaching into my bag caused me despair as my hands did not find my TI-89 calculator. I have lost it. But I did get a somewhat assuring email response from my lab instructor that a student may have it and will give it to me in lecture. Hopefully, it returns to its rightful owner. Those suckers cost well over a hundred bucks! That's at least 100 5 piece Wendy's nuggets!

New word that annoys me: rage quit. Often it's used now in online gaming when someone quits when under apparent rage. I'll hear it so often it enrages me to destroy them all...well, not really.

2nd experiment for my Gen Chem 2 course was on wednesday afternoon. A funny thing about this experiment is that it gives the reader incorrect information. Using the arrhenius equation you're supposed to graph the ln k vs. 1/T where the slope is equal to the -Ea/R. However, the instructions says twice in the manual to plot the 1/T vs ln k. I forgot to ask the instructor as to the problem. Tweek was in somewhat denial again. I did explain the concept of y=mx+b and how the manual was incorrect. Hopefully, he'll notice something when he plots the 1/T vs ln k to get something that looks like this:

He might get smart and get this:

I calculated the Ea to be 80.2 kJ. I found a japanese article with an abstract that said the estimated Ea to be 62kJ. I guess that's not too bad considering how poor the lab condition is for me.

On youtube I saw comments that were extending beyond the table comments are usually restricted to. weird because they all were saying ">lol>lol>lol>lol>lol>lol"

As I'm typing this I have learned that blogspot doesn't like me when I added the pics and typed in both the 'edit html' and 'compose' tabs. Oh well.

Lesson of the day: Don't let your mom buy hard rolls on sale. This one in my hand is dry and hard to eat. Ugh.... I'll let it slide because yesterday was my Mom's birthday. Went to Olive Garden on State St. and Vine St. Food was okay but the quantity was good.

Morning 1.27.09

...or evening is more precise.

Just got done watching a 720p (1280x720) version of the Dark Knight. WOW. I've seen that movie too many times but once more in HD was a good way to finish. Much better than Batman Begins, imo.

Happy New Years to all that know. So far I've had two nights of lots of food with two more nights to go. Tonight was veggies only but it was good. It's like a little buffet. So many things to try and I wonder what's for tomorrow.

I changed my background picture. I really liked the original picture because I got it from a favorite manga I'm currently reading. That reminds me I should check for a newly released chapter...nope.   :(  The problem was that my eyes felt like it was being pierced when I would read my own blog. So the original background was replaced by a Mr. T. picture where he's spending his Easter Sunday at a homeless shelter and making a prayer with a homeless dude. That earned a bit of respect from me.

I don't know if you've been keeping up with tennis but this year's Australian Open is very interesting. America's Andy Roddick made it to the semi-final and I was waiting for Roger Federer's quarter-final match but it seems that will be later today. Luckily, Tuesdays are my short days at school. Or I can skip it all together because I'm so damn smart. ::snirk::

School yesterday (monday) was interesting. I got back my group test score from my elem org class and we missed one question of 20. Originally, I had circled the right answer but my three partners were strongly convinced it was the other 'teaser' answer. I suppose because it was awhile I did this stuff that I was persuaded to eat the devil's donut (The Simpsons). The class is split into three groups. One group was short that day so I was moved there for the week. Turns out the lowest scoring group was my original group. The girl who takes charge made a point to the professor that they scored the lowest because they lost me. It seems people are catching on that I've had experience in organic...

I finish off with a clip of Mr. T. I think I'll look into his show.

1st Experiment Day of Gen Chem 2 Lab

At least one of you know that I'm taking courses at SLCC to get prerequisites done for dental school. One of them is Gen Chem 2 Lab. I must say that today was rather interesting. I must note that the chemistry lab facility there is horrible. No surprise there.

I've learned that my partner is a very panicky person. He kept forewarning that we wouldn't get done in time. He also is too worried about others around him. He got frustrated that people started leaving before we were done. I'll name my partner as "Tweek" after the south park character Tweek Tweak.

We were measuring out different chemicals that were already filled in "community" volumetric burets. Apparently, they don't have enough burets for everyone or maybe they're afraid someone will swallow chemicals. Anyways, I was reporting the buret measurements to the hundredths place such as 2.02 ml iodine. Tweek said that we were supposed to do it to the tenths place and I asked him why. He replies with 'because the teacher said so' to which I began explaining why the uncertainty lies at the hundredths. He stubbornly agreed but I later took a peek at his paper and kept them to the tenths. Later the teacher looked at my data table and said I should be reporting that to the tenths. Once again, I explained where the uncertainty lies is the location of the last digit of reported measurement. She gave me a baffled look so I then pretended to be mistaken and changed my data to the tenths. LOL.

Another interesting moment: we were mixing acetone and H+ from HCl in water in a test tube of iodine, and we calculated the time for the reaction to complete by waiting for the colors to go clear. On our first trial Tweek was using a stirring rod but he only stirred horizontally. This of course resulted the top layers to clear up first. On the following trials I told him that he should mix up and down as well. He stubbornly did it but had to be reminded over and over. The mixtures from there on were going clear throughout the test tube. So he learned that the first trial had to be thrown out, right? Wrong! Tweek wanted to use the data of the poor trial for our reaction rate calculations. Apparently, he chose that trial because the time to react was similar to the other students around him. I placed my foot down and said no.

I mentioned that Tweek was frustrated others were leaving befuse us. He failed to realize that we only had to finish the lab and not the calculations. However, I was not responding to him because I wanted to get all my calculations done before leaving campus. Later I told him that others were leaving earlier because they postponed their calculations.

This semester is going to be fun. I wasn't mad at anyone today but rather, I was entertained. But I did get mad at stupid Utahn drivers going 50 mph on the freeway for reasons none other than being stupid.

Yoho! Captain's Log 1.20.2009

I've returned!

Easy going weekend. Saturday morning got the workout going on with Phil. Good workout and even included running and interrupted racquetball! I was beating Phil 6-3 in points! Not sure if that's a win or a postponed game. Usually, I'll win 1 out of every 4 games so every lead I take is surely exciting. Not that I suck or anything. What? You think I suck? I'll destroy you on the court!

Moving on:

Didn't do a whole lot as to socializing outside the house. Shortly went to a friend's gf's art thingy that I thought was alright. It was at a ski and boarding shop but everything was poorly placed that it was hard to walk around. The art was rather dark but a few were interesting. I saw a Mr. T canvas that belonged to someone else, which I liked the most. Mr. T is the shiet. Foo.

Didn't go boarding this weekend as things weren't planned out that well. Also, my body said the massive pecs needed rest from the intense workout with Phil. I've gotten better at boarding as my helmet gives me the confidence to be a bit more risky. My next goal is to work on smoothing out my carves to where it seems I'm doing it effortlessly.

Just now I finished watching the 2001 movie Evolution. Funny movie that isn't crazy like Old School. Watched it with a follow up short paper for some extra credit in my chemistry class. Weird but I'm not complaining.

David Duchovny: 'No, no government. I know those people. Absolutely not.'
Orlando Jones: 'You do?'
::camera looks at a quiet David Duchovny::

HAHAHA

This afternoon I was working on making a edited video from playing this game called Left 4 Dead. I did it succesfully but not perfectly. Youtube wasn't too happy with my size of my video so it isn't optimized. The video is of Yoshi and I playing the hardest map and hardest difficulty by way of a map exploit. We failed the first time but Yoshi made it alive the second time. Btw, I purposely stayed behind to take on the bosses and zombies so Yoshi could escape and get a game achievement. It's not that I suck. Huh? You think I suck? I'll kill you on left 4 dead!!!

Currently listening to Audioslave- Revelations album while typing this. It pumps me up! Great for boarding music for it kills your fear!

Captain's log 1.17.09

Decided to join and give blogging a try. I often end up on blogs to find advise on tech stuff. Also, a friend just started his so I guess I'm a copycat. Done a bit before on myspace but I was too serious back then.

My intention is to have fun and post whatever. I don't have any high expectations to come from this blog than beyond the possibility I might see myself changing if i keep this up. Shit. That sounded serious. Oh and I do allow myself the healthy dose of swearing. Good for the bowl movements.

Time to sleep. Morning workout to come.
